July Flying Carpet 2013

In July The Flying Carpet
caroused at the 10th International Folk Art market/ Santa Fe.

Spirited music

Amazing Fashionistas

Alien Life Forms

Creatures from Jungian Dreams

Astounding Beauties

untold hours of handiwork

and the first baby to be born to a participating artist

made this Folk Art Market especially mind-blowing.

Special thanks to:
Jo, the Textile Angel

and Veo of the Lovely Smile
for allowing a lowly carpet to volunteer again

at the Ock Pop Tok Booth

also to Zack for photo # 1 and Jill for photo # 9

"Y'all come back and see us now, y'hear?" as they say in the South...

All levity aside,
more than 3,400 volunteers, many from New Mexico,
have given 120,000 hours of their time to the Market over the past nine years. These volunteer hours are valued at $5.12 million.

In the past nine years,
650 artists from 80 countries have participated in the Market
—generating more than $16 million in sales,
90 percent of which has gone home with the artists.
We don't yet know the impact of 2013 Market.

The global connections and friendships are beyond calculation.

Folk Art Market has changed the world.

June Flying Carpet 2013

In June the Flying Carpet
visited a most unusual artist's studio
in Santa Fe

a topsy-turvy phantasmagoria...

of toy airplanes flying under Tinsel Heavens...

of memory mirrors
and feathers enfolded in gossamer...

of floating days of play...

of bizarre juxtapositions...

and mysterious moolah.

The Flying Carpet
rested in reverie...

Special thanks for a time of quiet

and Happy Bike Trails
to a Portlandette
