May Flying Carpet 2025

In the midst of a whirling world…
The Flying Carpet envisions stillness:

as still as a blessing

as still as memory

as still as rust
as still as a sleeping Buddha

as still as wood awaiting fire

as still as a monumental boulder
As Still as strength
as still as a cemetery spiderweb
at dawn
as still as stone garden raindrops
as still as the center
of a cactus mandala

January 2025

In January
the Flying Carpet
flew low and carefully
through shadows

shadows of late afternoon stillness

shadows of inscrutable messages

shadows of whisper moire

 shadows of webbed glass
shadows of imperceptible tangle
  shadows of vine calligraphy
shadows of wrought iron lace
shadows of transience
shadows of the past
Special thanks to
Erica Wannamaker
and John Garrett
for making sculptures
that cast exquisite shadows
