July Flying Carpet 2016

“Those of us who tumble
from place to place
know a beautiful multi-colored,
ever changing world.
But (others) have lived
grounded in their ancient communities
for generations.
They have a sage knowledge
and sense of place
that often goes unacknowledged
by Tumbleweeds.”
Judy Newland in Cloth Roads’ Blog

The Flying Carpet
feels that it is a great privilege
to zoom around the world.
But it is a also astounding
to stay in Santa Fe

and have the best of both worlds:
The World comes to you.
 At Folk Art market
it serenades you with Malaysian music

takes you on a different carpet ride in Nepal

and makes ecstatic videos of it all

At Spanish Market
the artists leave the cathedral
in a solemn procession

the Mamacitas hold forth

and the scenery is not to be missed

 At Rieke Studios
Zachariah takes us on a Powerglide

No need to pack your suitcase!

In June
the Flying Carpet was
thrilled to stay home
and reminisce about Flea Markets...
after all... ‘tis the season...
THE STUFF
Even though some of us are stufficated,
we still love the thrill of hunting and gathering

I want it...
It’s mine!”

When I asked to take his picture,

Charles Simic wrote this
in Dime Store Alchemy,
“America is a place where the Old World shipwrecked.
Flea Markets and garage sales cover the land.
Here’s everything the immigrants
carried in their suitcases and bundles
to these shores
and their descendants threw out with the trash:”

...and japanese Flea Markets...
don’t even get me started on that one...
