February Flying Carpet 2022

 In February
The Flying Carpet
like many of us
feels the extremes of
up or down
these chaotic days
so let's stare at staircases…

and let's also
celebrate the courage
of the Ukrainian people

and the extraordinary life of
Maia Sampson Michael
1950-2022
who loved to paint
Ukrainian Easter Eggs

January Flying Caret 2022

 Onward through the fog
The Flying Carpet glided to Denver

Past the Gustave Baumann

frosted trees
cresting Raton Pass

Finally going somewhere
and then going nowhere
Staring at the snow out the window

Traveled to
 Zachariah Rieke's show

at William Havu Gallery*

Then homeward bound

Through the San Louis Valley

What happens at The Crazy Beaver
stays at The Crazy Beaver
Special thanks to Bill & Sharon Havu

November Flying Carpet 2021

 In November
the Flying Carpet
skedaddled to Las Vegas,

New Mexico

The Amtrak Southwest Chief
chugs through the station

a ghost town abandon
in chill November

Winter branches
piercing blue balloon sky

Adam's Cuts
on the Plaza
Cash Only!
Antique stores abound
Sock monkeys proliferate

remnants of the past
along the dry Gallinas river
Native presence echoes

Who looks out these windows?

No Country for Old Men
(filmed here in 2007)
but a great day trip for Old Women

Special Thanks to Maggie

October Flying Carpet 2021

When I am an old woman
I will ride a Flying Carpet
instead of a broom

I will be aware of the
beauty of my autumnal years

I will shuffle through leaves
like a child

I will seize the MOMENT
I will be almost invisible

I will think I see
someone else's face

in the mirror

I will make my house
“look like all my dreams”*
I will go adventuring
I will let others fly on broomsticks

special thanks to

Stephanie, Jacob, Sialia,
Linda, Dana and Eugenie
for adventuring with me.
