April Flying Carpet 2021

 As some of us
prepare to creep tentatively
into the world
beyond our doorstep
What is this world?

Is it the ancient and modern world
of privilege and want? *

The globes of constellations
chasing each other
now playing tag with satellites?

The weight of the world
rests on whose shoulders?

Have we learned anything? **
Is it a  Globe of Stereotypes?***
Is it a Globe of Worthless Money? ****
Is it a Globe of Flight*****
where “birds are free
from the chains of the skyway”

--Bob Dylan
Will we travel again
and sense the wonders
of that which is unknown?******

“With dewdrops dripping
I wish somehow I could wash
this perishing world”
   -Basho

March Flying Carpet 2021

  In March

The Flying Carpet

collaborated with many of you

to Bind Up the Broken-hearted.

Some of you sent cards

Some of you sent
hand dyed yarn and origami

Some of you sent

little works of textile art

and I started wrapping

These are just a few of the iterations...

Many thanks to all of you

who have been part of this project so far

February Flying Carpet 2021

In February
The Flying Carpet
thinks that
for many of us,
this has been a time of
tying up loose ends*

of the morning glories' past**

the dried remnants

of dragons' blood

We find our balls of twine**

We bind up and secure***

and carefully store
in packages and boxes and baskets

Some of us make bundles
that turn into collages****

We send away and share*****

We compost, burn,
throw away******

We collect the tangible
and the  intangible
in the attic of our memory

We make room

for what happens next

 * a year of morning glories bundled

**Thank you, Jill

December Flying Carpet 2020

 In September, October, November
and December of 2020
The Flying Carpet

did a daily calendar project

called Ritual of Fragments.

This is the month of November.

Part of October and November

By September 2020,
it felt like the days

were drifting by in a haze.

In an effort to grasp specificity
within the strange fluidity

of this time…
The flying carpet decided
to make a calendar

of  3” black and white drawings

This is a detail of December

perceiving the extraordinary

within the ordinary

11 25 2020

Turning the corner

11 4&5 2020

It's all about the numbers

11 7 2020

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

10 25 2020

Migration Amazement

9 26 2020

Purple Datura Silhouette

10 8 2020

Feeling like being

in the eye of the hurricaine

All wishes for health and well being

in the New Year
